P52 Week 5 - Shadows

Although most of the pictures I take now are of Zoe, I have to admit taking pictures of people is probably my least favorite. In a photography class I was in last year, we all went around the room and said what we like to photograph. Here is what the room sounded like...

"Weddings"
"My kids and dog"
"My family"
"My baby"
"Weddings and my son"
"I like to take pictures of old buildings. The more texture, the better. Interesting doors and windows. Especially things that are falling apart."
"Flowers"
"My pets and sunsets"

Which one was me?

So, part of this challenge for me is also to get back to the photography I enjoy. As much as I love the hundreds of adorable pictures of my baby girl, following her around with a camera is not what speaks to me.

Shadows are difficult to photograph in my opinion. The high contrast of light that creates the shadow is hard for me to capture. When I saw the assignment was shadows in the dead of cloudy winter I was a little dejected. Luckily, the weather here is creepily gorgeous and I had lots of sunlight to work with.

I could post 12 pictures that I liked, but I am also trying to edit myself with this.

Taking pictures of the sun coming in on our hardwood floors reminded me of my favorite painting. Even though I appreciate art - I'm not really into paintings, but this one has always spoken to me. I had the pleasure of seeing this in person at the Musee d'Orsay, and seeing it on the screen just doesn't do justice.

  4. Wow! I love the way the light casts a shadow and a reflection on the floor. Just beautiful.
